PCD:
Polycrystalline Diamond
|
|
|
| Diamond,
the hardest material known on earth. Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) is
a synthetically produced, extremely Solid, compound material of
randomly orientated diamond crystals. In conjunction with a metallic
solvent catalyst under extremely high temperature and ultra-high
pressure, the hard materials PCD is produced by sintering carefully
selected diamond grains (2u-40u). The polycrystalline
diamond compound is cemented onto a tungsten carbide substratum during
the sintering process, to the effect that the cutting material
combines diamond typical hardness, abrasion resistance and heat
conductivity with the toughness of tungsten carbide. When we consider
the tool life according to the practical experiences, PCD tool is 50
to 300 times longer than tungsten carbide tool. |
|
|
|
| The
three major advantages of PCD cutting tools in mass production in
the PCB industry have shown to be:
|
|
| 1. |
Increased
tool life; |
| 2. |
Reduced
downtime; |
| 3. |
Improved
finish. |
